What are Ekko Books?
Ekko Books are interactive narrated and sing-along picture books with sound for tablets, designed to help kids read in a digital age. Each book is categorised by age, averages 350 words and 14 double pages.
Read – an Ekko Book on the iPad or Android tablet.
Learn – to read and follow the story – text is highlighted in time with audio.
Look – at beautiful hand-drawn illustrations and surprise videos.
Listen – Read-along or sing-along to original tales.
Plus – At the end of each book is an interactive quiz about the story to see if you’ve been paying attention!
Why make tablet books for kids?
When you give a child a tablet, they expect to play or watch something. Not to read!
Ekko Books are different from regular books – They are interactive, which means they come alive (to compete with video games and movies), designed to encourage kids to read on screens and make it fun! With your help we can improve children’s literacy skills in a digital age.
How can Ekko Books educate and help children learn to read?
Kids can play an Ekko Book whenever they like, without waiting for an adult to read it to them! If they are learning to read they can follow the stories by themselves! Text is highlighted in time with narration or songs to help them build word/sound development. Narrated stories are read by a warm, female voice.
Each story has a message. These are a handful of examples from the collection: ‘Be brave!’, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’, ‘Be imaginative!’, ‘Do what you love!’, ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!’
How do I download an Ekko Book?
iPad:
1. Download iBooks app http://apple.co/1lBMI8D You already have iBooks if using iOS 8 or later, or your iPad was bought after Sept 2014.
2. Open iBooks.
3. Type ‘Ekko Books’ in search.
4. Download a book (make sure it’s by EKKO BOOKS, not Wikibooks on the same page).
5. Tap Open in ‘iBooks’.
6. It’ll be in your iBooks library. Tap the book and let the magic begin!
Android tablet:
1. Go to the Google Play store.
2. Type ‘Ekko Books’ in search.
3. Pick a story, tap ‘install’ and ‘accept’.
4. Then let the magic begin!
Which tablet is best to read an Ekko Book on?
iPads – have the most features for an Ekko Book.
Android tablets – can do everything except turn pages automatically.
How do I make an Ekko Book come alive with sound?
iPad:
1. With the book open, tap the screen.
2. Tap the iPad’s sound icon – a drop-down menu appears.
(‘Turn My Pages’ makes pages turn automatically).
3. Tap ‘Start Reading’ – The book will read or sing with you – Text is highlighted in time with the audio.
Android tablet:
1. With the book open, tap the screen.
2. Tap the tablet’s sound icon – The book will read or sing with you – Text is highlighted in time with the audio.

How do I give an Ekko Book as a gift?
Sending an Ekko Book as a gift on iTunes is easy!
From tablet:
1. Go to the iTunes store… type ‘Ekko Books’ in search and pick a book!
2. Tap the share symbol, then tap ‘Gift’.
3. Enter the email address of the person receiving the book.
4. Pick a theme to mark the occasion.
5. Check everything’s correct and hey presto, your gift is sent!
From Desktop:
1. Go to the iTunes store… type ‘Ekko Books’ in search and pick a book!
2. In the drop-down menu, next to the book’s price, select ‘Gift this book’.
3. Enter the email address of the person receiving the book.
4. Pick a theme to mark the occasion.
5. Check everything’s correct and hey presto, your gift is sent!
